Infosys sustains its eco-friendly mission

Bengaluru,   Global software major Infosys has reduced its electricity consumption per head by 53 per cent over the last decade, the company said in its 11th Annual Sustainability Report on Tuesday.

“Over 43 per cent of the company’s electricity requirements is currently being sourced from renewable sources, with installed solar capacity of 46.1 megawatt across India,” the city-based firm said in its report.

The company has also reduced its per capita water consumption by 57 per cent in 2017-18 compared to its consumption a decade ago, it said.

“In the current year, Infosys has recycled close to 2.5 million kilo litres of water — this amounts to 83 per cent of the total water withdrawn,” the report noted.

Keeping up with the company’s commitment to become carbon neutral and contribute to social development alongside carbon emission reduction, Infosys has worked in 1,600 villages in districts of Karnataka, Rajasthan, Odisha, Maharashtra and Jammu & Kashmir through biogas, biomass cook stove and rural electrification projects, the report added.

“Through these projects, Infosys reduced carbon emission by 153,309 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent as of March 31,” it said.
