Indian Workers Association Shows Solidarity at Leicester Trade Union Meeting

Leicester — Members of the Indian Workers Association (Great Britain) – Leicestershire attended a public meeting organised by the Leicester & District Trades Union Council at Hanson Hall, Leicester. The meeting brought together trade union representatives, community leaders and activists to express solidarity with workers and to raise concerns regarding the reported victimisation of trade union representative Tom Barker.

Representing the Association, General Secretary Sital Singh Gill joined fellow trade unionists and community representatives in showing support for workers’ rights, trade union freedoms and collective action. The Association reaffirmed its continued commitment to standing alongside workers, opposing victimisation of trade union representatives and supporting fair workplace practices.

During the event, Sital Singh Gill met Member of Parliament Zarah Sultana, trade union leaders and community representatives. Their discussions reflected on the historic role of the Indian Workers Association in Britain, particularly its contribution to workers’ struggles, anti-racist movements and community solidarity over many decades. Zarah Sultana MP acknowledged the Association’s longstanding involvement in campaigns for workers’ rights and welcomed its continued active participation in strengthening community and trade union unity.

The Association also appreciated Zarah Sultana MP’s consistent advocacy on issues of equality, social justice and workers’ rights, highlighting the importance of cooperation between elected representatives, trade unions and community organisations.

The Indian Workers Association (G.B) emphasised that unity between trade unions, community organisations and workers from diverse backgrounds remains essential to promoting fairness, protecting workplace rights and building a more inclusive and equitable society.
