JAMMU    (Asian independent)   Scores of leaders from various socio-political organizations and walks of life have cautioned India and Pakistan against engaging in another military conflict in the region, citing the devastating impact on innocent human lives. The warning was issued at a one-day peace conference in Jammu, themed “Stop Wars, Start Dialogue to Resolve Disputes.” Speakers emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have made immense sacrifices over the past 75 years and are adamant that their homeland should no longer suffer. They highlighted that Jammu and Kashmir, particularly Pir Panjal, Uri, and Karnah, bore the brunt of the recent Indo-Pak conflict.
The conference, organized by United Peace Alliance in collaboration with Internationalist Democratic Platform (IDP), Communist Party of India (CPI), Akali Dal (Amritsar), CP(M), CPI (ML), and Lok Manch, condemned the unilateral abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A, stating that Jammu and Kashmir has been reduced to a colony, denied its constitutional and democratic rights. Speakers criticized the BJP for using Jammu and Kashmir as a means to garner votes across India, celebrating the abrogation of its special status and demotion to a powerless Union Territory. Resolutions passed at the conference included restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s position as of August 4, 2019, and resuming dialogue between India and Pakistan to resolve all outstanding disputes, including Jammu and Kashmir. Prominent speakers included ID Khajuria, Adv Jameel Kazmi, Adv Sheikh Shakeel, Kubbushan Singh, RK Kalsotra, Mir Shahid Saleem, Safeer Chowdhary, Avd Anwar Chowdhary, Santosh Kumar, Nirdoush Uppal, Dr Amar Chand Bhagat, Adv Subash Samyal, Gitten Singh, Col.
