Glasgow-headquartered and globally operating British Youth International College (BYITC) was the only business to win two awards, securing the Product Innovation Award and being named Digital Technology Business of the Year (Scale-Up) at the ScotlandIS Digital Technology Awards 2025.

ScotlandIS, celebrating its 25th anniversary, held its 15th Digitech awards ceremony in Glasgow’s Radisson Blu hotel last week (20 March 2025). Nominated companies ranged from major blue-chip organisations including Lloyds Banking Group and Morgan Stanley to start-up businesses.

BYITC’s Product Innovation Award recognises its ground-breaking 100% digital learning software, designed to transform traditional education through technology. The platform is home to Supermaths, the world’s first game-based Abacus app, which makes mathematical learning engaging and intuitive for children. The learning platform also integrates “Olivia”, the UK’s first AI homework assistant for personalised learning.

The Digital Technology Business of the Year (Scale-Up) award recognised BYITC’s resilient, scalable business model, ensuring long-term sustainability through continuous innovation, strong retention and growth strategies, powered by word of mouth, referrals, and targeted marketing campaigns which will help the business to grow.

Dr. Rashmi Mantri said: “Winning validates our 10-year journey from a small room with a handful of students to a global force in 50+ countries, empowering thousands of young minds.

“Starting with abacus maths and expanding our courses to English, Science, Computing, 11+ and more has strengthened our credibility as a leading name.

“This achievement is particularly special as BYITC is the only company to win two awards this year and that too on the 25th anniversary of the event. I’m incredibly proud of our business, but nothing is more rewarding than seeing the next generation of children flourish.

“A huge thanks to our parents and teachers for supporting these incredible young people. The majority of our team are female and it is particularly gratifying to win these two Awards just as International Women’s Month is celebrated.”

BYITC, which helps young people aged between five and 17 to learn skills including computer programming, maths, games development, web development and mobile app development, runs franchises globally, including in Dubai and Sri Lanka, and launched its first UK franchise in Basingstoke, Hampshire, in 2023.

ScotlandIS CEO, Karen Meechan, said: “Every year the calibre of entries for Digital Tech Awards never fails to amaze me and it’s inspiring to see the range of sectors this year’s winners represent and BYITC is a clear winner.

“From education to AI, it is indicative of the work being done at all levels to inspire the next generation of talent and support the growth of the sector, despite a tricky climate. It’s real grassroots to glory picture that’s being painted, and I hope to see that determination continue in the next 12 months.

“Marking a quarter of a century of ScotlandIS, this year’s awards feel particularly special. We’re incredibly proud of how the Scottish tech sector has flourished over the past two decades and we only hope to see that continue in the next 25 years.”
