(Asian Independent)- Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the polymath and emancipator of millions of Indians, his birth anniversary is celebrated on the 14th April all around the world. The Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti as it is referred, was organized by Buddhist Ambedkarite Maitry Sangh, UK on 23rd April, 2022 at the Cambridge Buddhist Center in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

On the occasion of the 195th birth anniversary of Krantisurya Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and 131st birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, various programmes were organized. These included impressive performances of short plays, dance, povada (ballard), Bhim songs, poetry reading and playing musical instruments. These performances depicted events based on the lives of great Indian icons, Dr. Ambedkar, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Emperor Asoka, Rajashri Shahu Maharaj, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mata Ramai and Savitrimai Phule.

The Buddhist Ambedkarite Maitry Sangha is a family oriented, non-political organization based in the United Kingdom that strives to preserve member’s cultural and ideological heritage by bringing together families living in the region. The organization strives to create an Ambedkarite and Buddhist social and cultural forum in the UK.

The occasion of the jubilee event provided a platform for the young and old to present their skills. Taking advantage of the opportunity, a large number of children participated in various programs and showed their talents.

Even while living in the United Kingdom, the Buddha Dhamma, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Chhatrapati Shahu ji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, along with the invaluable ideology of great people are inculcating in our children.

The program started with recitation of Buddha Vandana. After paying homage to Mahamanavan, the vihara resounded with the chanting of Jayabhim. The event was attended by families and friends from all over the United Kingdom.

Many came from as far as from Scotland and Wales, parts of the United Kingdom.

For hundreds of years, bahunjans had to live the undignified life, but because of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, now they have got opportunities to contribute to the society as per their own ability and merit. Many doctors, engineers, businessmen, professionals, PhD holders settled across the seas joined singing ‘Uddharli Kati Kule Bhima Tujha Janmamule’. They are spreading the ideas of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and other great men as a responsibility of the society.

Officials from the “Cambridge Buddhist Center” in Cambridge also made their vihara available for the event without any delay. The Cambridge Buddhist Monastery regularly hosts a variety of events, they were very happy to include an important cultural event such as “Bhim Jayanti 2022”.
