An awareness campaign by the British Heart Foundation at Guru Amar Das Gurdwara Leicester on Sunday 1st March raised £990. A BHF stall was set up which had leaflets, booklets, posters etc. The congregation showed a lot of interest and enquired about how to live a healthy life.
Community Speaker and Awareness Campaigner Sulakhan Singh Dard spoke from the stage and informed the congregation how to look after cardiac health, keep cholesterol levels down and how to control type 2 diabetes as all these conditions could lead to heart failure, stroke and vascular dementia. He explained that it is very important to cut down on the intake of saturated fat, sugar and salt. Apart from eating fruit and vegetables everyone would also benefit from regular gentle exercise.
The BHF representative commented “ I wish to say a big thank you to the Gurdwara Management Committee for their kind donation of £501.00 and each and every person who donated for a very worthy cause.”
