Jaipur,  Rajasthan’s Udaipur saw tension on Wednesday when protesters, calling for a shutdown against the CAA, clashed with traders, who refused to pull down the shutters of their shops.

The situation turned violent and police carried out a baton charge to control the situation. Around 10-12 people have been detained and cases registered in three police stations – Hathipol, Surajpole and Bhupalpura.

Police officials said violence erupted in different parts of the city on Wednesday between anti-CAA protesters and shopkeepers.

They said that a few organisations had given a call for a shutdown against the CAA and called for the markets to remain shrt. The protesters gathered at the Town Hall, raising slogans against the CAA and the Central government, and then took out a procession towards the Delhi Gate.

But as the protesters crossed the Bapu Bazaar where the shops were open, they tried to get them shut and started pelting stones.

This created tension and police baton charged to disperse the mob.

Superintendent of Police Kailash Chandra Bishnoi did not respond to phone calls from IANS, while local police officials said that they are busy with panchayat elections and hence, complete details about the incident are not available with them.
