Ex-Pakistan prez Zardari gets bail on health grounds

Islamabad, The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari in fake accounts case on health grounds, the media reported.

Zardari is facing charges of money laundering and a corruption case about illegal grant of land in the capital Islamabad.

Bilawal Bhutto, son of Zardari, and chairman of the opposition Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), confirmed the bail by the Islamabad High Court on health grounds, Xinhua reported.

Pakistan’s anti-graft body, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), arrested in June this year Zardari who served as the president of the country since 2008 to 2013.

A division bench led by Chief Justice Athar Minallah allowed bail to the co-chairman of PPP on the medical ground, and directed him to deposit Rs 10 million as surety bonds, Urdu Point reported.

The court granted him bail in two references including Park Lane and fake accounts case.

He said he was suffering from multiple diseases and was heart patient, having three stents in his heart.

He said that he had a Holter monitor attached to his chest for continuous check and monitoring of his heartbeat’s variation and blockages in his arteries.

He also submitted that he had been suffering from ischemic heart disease.

He asked the court to allow him bail on medical grounds so that he could receive his treatment properly.
