Cloudy day.

New Delhi,  Southwest monsoon, which had made a quiet entry into the national capital two days ago, did not cause rains on Sunday and the situation is expected to remain the same in the region till Tuesday owing to unfavourable conditions.

There were no rains in Delhi on Sunday except traces at some parts, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The day remained cloudy and the maximum temperature was recorded at 35.8 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was 27.6 degrees Celsius.

Unfavourable weather conditions were behind the poor monsoon performance in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab, said Mahesh Palawat, director at private forecaster Skymet.

“Rains are unlikely or will be poor till Tuesday. Later, monsoon will gather pace and the region will get good rainfall,” he said.

On Monday, the sky is expected to be cloudy and the mercury level is expected to hover around the 27-35 degrees Celsius range.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra, Goa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar and northeastern states in the next few days.

There can be thunderstorm accompanied by lightning in parts of Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand.
