About the speakers:
Fouzia Dastango: As her name suggests, she is an artist of the 16th century oral storytelling art, Dastangoi. Fouzia has been performed over 100 shows all over India and in UAE. For her contribution to the field of preserving and promoting Dastangoi, Fouzia has recently been facilitated as “India’s First Woman Dastangoi Artiste” by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. In a unique attempt to preserve Delhi’s cultural heritage, Fouzia has worked on reviving dialects of Old Delhi (Purani Dilli), which are on the verge of extinction even within Old Delhi. Some of these dialects include Dilli ki Karkhandari Zubaan, Dilli ki Begmati Zubaan, Dilli ke Dhobiyon ki Zubaan, Dilli ki Naiyon ki Boli etc.
Saneya: With a background in Urdu and Persian, Saneya completed her training in Literatures in English from Delhi University. Interested more in context rather than text, she found her specialization in cultural studies. Having written a dissertation on women’s commercial fiction in India.
